How to Perform Jumping Exercises

Before you actually begin, do some of the basic warm-up exercises to stretch your muscles and prepare your body for the workout. The warm-up session can last for five to ten minutes. Running, jogging, stretches, and jump rope exercise are good options.

Single Leg Jumping

Here are the steps that you need to follow:
  • Stand on one leg and jump. Try to land on the same leg.
  • The height of the jump should increase with every attempt to get positive results.
This exercise can certainly help in increasing the vertical leap. Make sure that the landing surface is soft.

Squat Jump

  • Squat as low as possible, while maintaining your balance.
  • Jump in the air.
  • In order to increase the height of your jump, you can imagine that you are catching something in the air.
  • Land your feet on the ground properly. Return to the original position.
  • Continue doing this for a fixed time and try to increase the number of jumps slowly and steadily.

Tuck Jumps

This exercise will help you increase your vertical leap.
  • Stand with your feet hip-width apart, and keep your arms by your sides.
  • Bend your knees and lower yourself as you would in a full squat.
  • When you jump, bring your knees towards your chest, and catch them with your arms.
  • Your thighs and torso should touch.
  • Release your legs, landing softly on the mid-foot.
  • With sufficient and consistent practice, you will be able to jump higher.
Plyometric exercises can certainly help you improve your speed, stamina, power, and coordination. Athletes often perform exercises such as leg box jumps (jumping off a box to a higher box), broad jumps (standing with your feet apart, followed by swinging your arms, and jumping far in the forward direction), etc.
The advantages of jumping exercises are many, but these should first be performed under the guidance of a trainer. Once you have learned all the techniques, you can practice them independently.
